Johndale C. Solem was an American theoretical physicist (Los Alamos National Laboratory, PhD Yale University). Following the work of physicist Lowell Brown throughout his career and his experiences having worked with Ted Taylor on Project Orion, he developed alternative options for propulsion in a future interstellar probe called Medusa. His most cited paper, "Fourier-transform holographic microscope" by Waleed S. Haddad, David Cullen, Johndale C. Solem, James W. Longworth, Armon McPherson, Keith Boyer, and Charles K. Rhodes in ''Applied Optics'' Vol. 31, Issue 24, pp. 4973-4978 (1992) has been cited 164 times according to Google Scholar.〔()〕 His second most cited, ''Approaches to the development of gamma-ray lasers" by George C.
